when you wish upon a blog

This post turns out to be post number eleventy-one...equivalent to Bilbo Baggins' eleventy-first birthday (LOTR reference for you fanatics out there). It's short one "1" to be the value of an 11:11 wish, but since it'd take light years for me to get to 1,111 posts (and since I can do what I want on my blog), you can wish upon my 111th blog post.

On another note-

Last night, I went to a concert at the Pyramid again with my roommate, her friend, and Manny-o. This time, Vancourite hip-hop artist Shad and opening act from Winnipeg Grand Analog took the stage. (Sorry you had to miss it Cam- I know you would have loved it!). I have to say though- it was definitely one of the most bizarre concert experiences. Other than the fact that the crowd was more vanilla milkshake than you'd expect, I got completely boxed out by a 10'2" guy with his 8'10" girlfriend (quote- Manny: "I've never felt so average height"), got my personal space black hole'd when Shad came into the audience for his encore song and the world seemed to collapse around us (I literally couldn't stop laughing 'cause there was nothing I could do but attempt my basketball box-out skills to stay vertical...win: stayed vertical...fail: never want to be in a mosh-pit again).

I think one of the best things was the whitest bass guitarist/keyboardist in the history of hip-hop looked 16/17 and sported a wedding band (see pic 4). Shad spit some HOT fire (he would have won Sungnation's Challenge, hands down). And I happened to briefly chat with the Shad-man before the show (chill guy).

I'd also like to say that the whole time I saw Shad on stage, I could only picture the one and only Kris Saint! For some reason, they seemed to look alike to me and both very clever lyrics and style. I see your future Saint.
After the show- one of Grand Analog's good friends (Stefan?...Stephen?....Steven?) who was "with the band" approached me, chatted, & began to creep me out (came to point of me lying and saying that I was taken) soooo, that was my cue to leave.

If you want to know more deets, let me know- so many weird things....

cadeaux de montréal

I'm constantly on the look out for new artists to add to my iTunes (I have a list called "Chill - Shuffle Perfection" which is, yes- perfection).

Yesterday as I was tidying up my living room, I stumbled upon two of my roommates CD's that immediately caught my attention and promptly made their way into "perfection".

The first artist, Coeur de Pirate, I had actually heard of, really liked their stuff, and had been meaning to get more of. Lucky find!
The second album I stumbled upon was La Patere Rose (I can't seem to make the accent grave over the 'e' on my Mac...hmph). I'd never heard of this group, but they are great!
Side Note: Take a look at the guy on the far right of the album art. I did a double take at first, who does it look like at a quick glance? A certain C-Flow?

Facts about both groups: they are both from Montreal and they both are almost completely all in French! This will make me have to brush up on my French skills.

What do we think of the new blog look?

mad about style

With all this free time due to lack of job, I've really just been spending my time roaming around doing this and that and just simply thinking (or hanging out in my yard...getting bitten by ANTS which I am apparently having allergic reactions to).

Today, I went to Sbux on Academy and then went over to a new place called Mad About Style Boutique. Most of their pieces come from California, New York, or Montreal. I ended up trying on a onesie jumpsuit that seems to be making a comeback.

Not gonna lie- I kind of loved it. But no, I did not get it.
______

Alright- I just discovered the most ridiculous thing (BM = Blonde Moment), here's how it goes:

As I sifted through my iTunes while posting this trying to decide which song to play next, I came to the song "Low Sail" by Amy Millan. I had always loved this song since I got it, but it was only NOW that as I looked at the name it dawned on me....

Amy Millan from Stars. OH my goodness- I really can be quite blonde sometimes.

Oops.

Fun Fact of the day: I'm going to become an entrepreneur (damn you lack of awesome jobs in Winnipeg).

not brave enough for a video yet

It's been a pretty chill day...and I'm not talking about the weather! The weather was absolutely DELICIOUS today- yes that adjective was worthy of use. I baked cinnamon chocolate chip banana muffins- which turned out amazing, if I do say so myself. Watched a couple of episodes of a show I'd missed. And settled that the weather was far too amazing to pass up and decided to continue honing my guitar skills out on the back porch.

That's right- I'm teaching myself the guitar!

Sat out on my porch as the last rays of sun dwindled and practiced my chords (and coordination). I can kind of play Daydreamer by Adele already! (I've mentioned Adele a few times in my blogosphere, I like her, but I'm not a diehard fan- it's just my roommate happens to have an Adele music book).

Calluses will be forthcoming and awfully welcomed.

flaming desires

Early this afternoon I went for a run exploring my neighbourhood in the opposite direction of where I ran yesterday. I worked out a bit in my living room after, but then went and sat outside on my front steps to recover.

In the crisp air with slight overcast skies with a slight warmth radiating from somewhere, it was on those front steps that I realized my true desire of the day was only to sit in front of a fire and make hot dogs in a comfy plaid sweater wrapped in a jean blanket with some s'mores for dessert!
It is now early into the evening and my desire for this has only increased. The weather and my mood just simply call for this!

Too bad I don't have a fire pit...

I can't believe how much I have a hankering for this right now!! (A night under the stars would add to this delight).

Since I can't seem to have my true hearts desire right now, chocolate covered strawberries and homemade wine are on the menu and the movie "Chicago" for my entertainment. (I know, this does sound great- but apparently the hot dog cravings are greater than the chocolate covered strawberries).

In fact- I seriously can't wait to go camping (if anyone's interested in planning a trip, I'm in).

STARS

So- the "Lights Crew" made another appearance at a concert last night.

When I found out STARS was going to be in town, I knew where my heart, mind, soul, and body belonged on the night of May 10: at the Pyramid Cabaret. Cam, Jen, Manny (who I'm sure will all blog a bit about their experience, so check them out!), & I met up at Earls on Main for some drinks where Manny's friend met up with us and we all headed over.

Yes, the ticket said 8:00 start time, but the lead singer ended up entertaining us with some MacBook DJ-ing for a long time- with occasional intervals of him taking a drag out of an apple bong...yes, a REAL apple. I'm not complaining about the temporary entertainment, but I was just far too anxious to hear the main act that the 10:00 start was VERY much welcomed when it came!

They played through their entire new album, The Five Ghosts, that no one had heard yet- and it was faaaabulous! Can't wait to have the music in my iTunes. Then they continued on with a ton of songs from their old albums, with a majority coming from Set Yourself On Fire.

I can't believe how good they are live!! There's groups that you completely regret hearing live because they sound nothing like their album (in a bad way). But this group was just...I'm stumbling here for a good word to describe it, but nothing's coming to mind that does it justice.

They thanked Winnipeg for supporting them and being such great fans- and they honestly seemed so genuine about it! I appreciate that..truly genuine artists.

They had white roses attached to all of their equipment on the stage during the show and ended up throwing them out to the audience. I was bound and determined to get one of those roses from the start of the concert. Unfortunately- I never caught one. However- Manny's dear friend was kind enough to give me the one she caught! (You have quality friends, Manny-o).
So now- I can go on and live a happy life ("I'M ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIVEEEEE!!"). If they're ever in my neighbourhood again, you can bet I will be booked that night!

lady in my life

Shoot- I'm minorly late, but it's NEVER too late to give a special shout out to my dear mumsie! I'm especially forgiven because I was busy spending the day with the lovely lady.

My mum's great. Over the years, since moving out, we've become much closer than ever before and I'm so thankful for our relationship!

Thanks for being so great, mama!

-Love Love Love-

then the-, i think that-, or maybe-, today i-...

It's been quite the week. Still settling into my new place (my roommates are great). It's a nice welcome to have a robbery happen in the business right behind your house the day after you move in as well.

So far still jobless- however, I have an interview tomorrow morning for something that'll help pay the bills. So I'll savour my non-working days while I can.

I severely ran my very first red light the other day... It went unnoticed. Thank you, sweet baby Jesus.

Yesterday I received news about another engagement- this is getting ridiculous: NINE weddings this year. Not that I'm not happy for you all (I truly am!), but please don't be expecting any elaborate gifts from this broke gal.

STARS concert on Monday!

I realize this blog has been all over the place- so much has happened this past week that I don't think it'd all properly fit into a bearable length'd post.

I guess this blog is a lot like my mind these days- everywhereeee!

Fun Fact of the day: I was watching a documentary on CBC the other day (I love documentaries) about lies. In ancient China, they created a lie detecting system with rice. They made the suspect chew dry rice and spit it out. If they could spit it out, they weren't lying. If they couldn't, they were. This was due to the fact that if you weren't nervous (not lying), you could produce saliva which you apparently wouldn't be able to do if you were nervous (lying).

bushed

Oh my goodness I hate moving.

I woke up nice and early this morning to get a good start on the final phase of packing and cleaning before my sister and her fiancee came out to help me. (Yeah, my parents couldn't even come help 'cause my bro-in-law was out in Wink-town from Alaska so they stayed to see him...understandable). I HATE the last bit of packing because you're just searching for random places to pack the random little things.

What really made the day just ALL the more joyous was that it was raining...all...day...long. Can't imagine anything more care-free than moving your BED and boxes in the back of a truck in the rain. Luckily, I had looked at the forecast and came prepared with tarps!

Anyway, after a few hours with fighting to pack everything securely...and waterproof-ly....off we went down the highway. 3 highway-shoulder stops to fix the tarps later, we arrived at the new residence of ME.

Just absolute mayhem up in hurr unpacking now. My room is a complete explosion of stuff, but at least my bed is made so I have something to crash on.

My one roommates parents are out from Alberta, so they bought us all Thai takeout and wine for dinner to finish the crazy day off. Delectable. (Especially nice since my breakfast and lunch consisted of....strawberries...everything else was packed away).

I am completely exhausted right now and will soon give myself a solid sleep to get ready for another day full of unpacking. Next post, I'll let you know about a potential job opportunity that I have that is going to be AWESOME if I get.
Sorry to everyone whom I have not talked to in awhile! It's been crazy! BUT- now that I'm in the city, I would like to hang out with some people soon, please.
