an idea and nothing more really

I was bored today. I decided to go shopping. I always enjoy a good day on the town and it's always an interesting experience when you're by yourself. I enjoy it. I can power through the things that I don't want to waste my time with, and doddle where my attention is drawn. I can also observe people...

I started off with a Superstore stop for a few necessities. As I was standing in line (express lane), the man holding his baby in front of me placed his two bags of chips on the treadmill counter (that's the actual term for the moving counter thingy.............). He had his basket on the floor at his feet with a frozen box of pizza in it. As his chips moved, he scooted the basket along with him... I occasionally would look down at the pizza and back at the man, curiously. Eventually, as he was paying for his chips, he glanced around (again) and locked eyes with me. I didn't say anything, but I believe that my expression/eyes read something along the lines of "I know what you're doing..." His chips were bagged, he tossed them in the basket, and briskly exited the building...with baby on board. (Way to set a good example, dad). Why didn't I say anything? I don't know. I could have embarrassed him into honesty. Maybe I just gave him the benefit of the doubt that there was a reason for it looking like a small theft? I think I actually felt bad for him...

Anyway, after making a pitstop at Domo on Academy for some cheap(er) gas, I mozied on over to Polo Park to putter around for awhile. The GAP seemed to draw me in and I ended up spending more money than planned (although 3 items I got were on the sale rack plus my entire bill was discounted 30%...SUPER!).
This all got me thinking: malls are a funny thing. This is not an epiphany. I don't really love being in malls. On occasion, I enjoy going for the clothes (although todays purpose was to kill time). I get annoyed. Maybe it's the teeny-boppers with their desperate attempts to flaunt their pre-pubescant bodies to any onlooker in the vicinity...even if it means roaming the entire mall 17 times. Maybe it's the fact that people don't seem to understand that the rules of traffic can actually apply to mall halls: slow traffic- please keep RIGHT. I'm not in the mood to play red-rover from behind.

But who am I kidding, I'll never completely veto malls, they contain clothes :) I graciously admit that I submit to retail therapy. I'll call them 'bulk buys'. But don't worry, my mama taught me well: "...Was it on sale??..."

Yet, as mentioned earlier, I was alone and I could leave whenever I pleased which makes malls a whole lot more bearable (which I did, because the stores were getting to be like Kenaston at rush hour).

Fun Fact of the day: Apparently mosquitoes aren't in favour of dryer sheets. Pop one in your pocket!

i'm no artist, but i painted a picture once

I've been meaning to write a new post for awhile now. Every time I come to write, I never really know what to tell you about. Other than going to Jon & Jenna's wedding on Saturday (2010 Wedding count = 5th), I've kept myself busy with helping a friend paint her house and the occasional hangout sesh with whoever is available.

Speaking of painting, yesterday, I finished watching the first season of a show called Work of Art: The Next Great Artist aired through Bravo (peasant vision leaves me to watch online) and it's made me more jealous of artists than ever. I've always wished I was good with a brush and/or pencils. In elementary school, everyone thought I was really good, but that ability didn't seem to surpass those years ha. Watching that show, it made me really wish I had taken Art in high school (no, not trying to copy you Meaggie hah).
(Also- not only was it an inspiring show to watch, the characters of a lot of the people were really fun and I thoroughly enjoyed watching people who had similar characteristics and personality traits as me.)

It really makes me want to try and do something cool with that newest purchase of mine...

Anyway, here's just a some short links to things if you're bored:

Watch this over & over again to get some humour into your day.

Intricacy at it's finest.

CBC Radio told me about this song.

Intimate? Perhaps a little too much...

uninteresting title

Alrights, so I've been sucked into the phenomenon whole heartedly now: I've officially started reading the Twilight book series. Yep, seeing the movies was a guilty pleasure of mine...but now that I've started reading the books (which I just started today), I've become completely enthralled. I'm prepared to accept the fact that I'm now as easily entertained as a group of hormonal 14 year old girls. Although I figured I'd enjoy the books...vampires/fantasy have always drawn me in...

Nerd much?

Carrying on...

I was in Winklertown for Friday-Saturday. A friend of mine had asked me to play on his team for a beach volleyball tournament on the Saturday which clearly I agreed to! I am so sore now as I literally threw my body into it with all I had which paid off, 'cause we came out with the W! Yep- won the tourney. So much fun. Actually- I didn't give myself the option to lose since it was against an old high school mate who is still stuck in his "glory days" (which was about 6 years ago) and needs to snap out of it...you're not going to win all the championships anymore bud!

Some people...

A tidbit of gaiety pour vous:
Sung, I think we need to start a new club: NICE CAMERA CLUB! Yeah- so I ended up making the 2nd biggest purchase of my life (excluding skewl) next to my Mac...a new Nikon D5000 (my lens is a bit larger than the one that I hyperlinked). I guess I'm going to have a lot of digital homework coming up mastering this beast; I suppose my substitute for the classroom setting come September. Don't expect anything fantastic yet.

...hmm...so what now...all these cameras!? so little knowledge.
Fun Fact of the day: I'm very pleased with the results of the So You Think You Can Dance finale on Thursday.

august is my favourite month in the whole wide calender

Imagine this:

A neighbourhood with rows of quaint porched houses lined parallel across each other. Parents sat with their evening coffee as their children went about and played, perhaps with a grandparent. But the only different thing about this neighbourhood that I stumbled upon while veering off my road on a run was that these houses lined, not a street, but wooded area with webs of old over grown pathways sporadically connecting at points, then disappearing in through a new and unpaved neighbourhood that were dotted with swing sets and picnic tables amongst the foliage.

A fairytale land?

Nope! It's real! It was so cool to find, and I kept on going on along the paths forever having no idea when I'd come out the other side and find the road again. Maybe I'll write a short story! (I've been reading a book of short stories by Neil Gaiman...hence...).

I thought it was neat...

Anyway, my dad ended up finding another camera of my grandaddy's in our basement: a Kodak Instamatic 104. This classic baby was first released in 1963! I think I'm going to have to make a visit to Don's Photo one of these days soon to find some cartridge. Anybody in the mood for an old school photo shoot? THESE are kind of the quality we're looking at.
